The Power of Screen Printing
12 Jan 2023
Screen printing is one of the most popular and well-known methods used by large brands to mass produce their apparel. Screen printing is a process where ink is applied to a mesh screen that acts as a stencil. The screen is stretched across a frame and placed over the surface of the garment. The ink is then forced through the mesh onto the garment, where it adheres in an even layer.
The process begins with creating artwork on a computer using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, which can then be sent to vendors who specialize in printing graphics onto items like shirts or hats. It's important to use high quality images for this process because they will be printed at large sizes onto clothing or other promotional items like bags or totes.
Once you've created your artwork and sent it off to your vendor, you'll receive proofs from them within 1-2 days (sometimes sooner). You will also receive instructions for how much ink should be used for each color as well as how many colors there are total including white background so you know exactly what type of garment you're going to need for production purposes (unlike traditional print methods which require different types of garments depending on what color combinations are being used).
